General
This was the second attempt at moving these materials - another 30,000
lb (13,600 kg) load. The first day selected was cancelled in advance. The
weather was exactly as predicted, heavy rain and strong wind. Of course 2 out of
4 of the previous barge trips have been done in heavy rain, so this in itself
would not have been new. The wind, however, was another problem!
This time two trucks were organized to meet at the barge at the same time - and this is exactly what happened! Both trucks arrived on time, both with the capability of lifting their cargoes to the deck of the barge. The trucks were not quite as required! One, carrying the soapstone had been advised that the total weight of the shipment was 3,500 lbs (1,600 kg) and a truck of that carrying capacity was arranged. In fact the shipment was 3,500 kg (7,700 lb) - but the problem was discovered only as the truck was loaded. A slightly overweight truck proceeded to the wharf in Horseshoe Bay.

Colin, Klay and Ken move the mortar into the house.
September 15 saw the end of the bricks on the beach. Once at the top of the hoist all the bricks were moved into the house and placed on the appropriate floor ready for the chimney builder. The mortar was also distributed between the floors.
