Water - Rain water is collected from the roof. It is then purified and stored in tanks. It is filtered and pumped around the house.
Sewer - Lot #9 has enough earth for a standard septic system. There is an 1100 gallon two chamber septic tank, and 150 feet of tile in the earth.
Power - Lot #9 will be equipped with 20 solar panels. The power from these panels is stored in 24 112lb 12V batteries. An inverter is used to convert the 12V battery power into 120V house power. A 3KW generator is also used on cloudy days, or in periods of high demand.
Cable TV - No plans for Lot #9, although there are some satellite dishes and antennas on the island.
Natural Gas / Oil - Many houses on the island have
large propane tanks mounted near the water. Twice a year, a large
propane barge fills all the tanks. The house on Lot #9 will do this as
well. The main house heating will be with a wood stove.
P.S.
- Burning wood in new stoves is not harmful to the environment!
Phone - Cellular.

Taxi Service - Stephen and Marja own their own boat so have the option of using that or the water taxi service.
So what is it like???
You can't tell the
difference. Island dwellers are careful with energy, especially with
power, but if you didn't know all this, you would find living in a house
on the island just like living in a house with all the services.
