The steel roofing was actually delivered on October 26. It was an overcast fall day, with practically no wind. Lockwood and Don T. (an Island resident - and, a roofing professional) were there to help. The fall colours of the trees can be seen in the background of some of the photos.
The metal roofing was taken up to the third floor balcony, one piece at a time with a four to 1 block and tackle suspended from the roof. The sheet was then carried to the roof up the ladder, where Stephen put it down approximately in place. Here Marja is seen adjusting the next sheet. When the metal sheeting is on the roof it is more slippery and both people are wearing their safety harnesses. The south side of the roof was completed, except for the roof ridge cap, on December 3.
The block and tackle used to lift the metal sheeting for the roof.

Winter even comes in Vancouver, so progress for December and the early part of 2001 was slow for the roof. It is just not safe to climb on the roof when there is any risk of frost or when it is wet. Fortunately spring comes early in Vancouver and work started again in February, with the steel roofing all in place on March 11, 2001
